The Military History Book (Print ISBN 978-1409383444) contains over 1000 images of the hardware of war; from flint daggers to the XM25 grenade launcher.
For this project the publisher commissioned new photography from major military collections including the Royal Armouries, Imperial War Museums and National Maritime Museum. Luped picture research liaised with militaries, manufacturers, specialist agencies, collectors and picture libraries. Images from over 100 different sources appear in the final book.
Catalogue style spreads show the evolution of different weapons and these are given context by other pages featuring timelines, key figures, battles and tactics. The result is an impressive overview of the developments in battlefield technology that changed the nature of warfare and course of human history.
We like the virtual tours of ships, tanks and aircraft where the combination of commissioned, stock and historical images is very effective. The level of detail captured in some of the photography is at times stunning. The book itself is beautifully produced and with its gold foiling and embossed dust jacket (UK edition) would make a great present. Definitely worth a closer look and now available to buy here.
